In a March 2025 FEI Alumni event, Prof. Douglas Irwin argued that the world has entered a more protectionist era: globalization鈥檚 strongest phase has stalled, Trump鈥檚 tariff agenda is likely to make countries poorer, and lower-income consumers will bear much of the cost through higher prices. For Israel, his advice is to reduce risk by expanding trade agreements beyond the US and EU, especially in Asia and Latin America, while using its strengths in technology and chips to remain valuable in a less open global economy.
