FEI Monograph: Economic Freedom and Doing Business

Economic Freedom and Doing Business: Perspectives on the Abraham Accords Countries, Saudi Arabia, and Iran is a short FEI monograph on economic freedom and Doing Business in Israel, the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, written by Simeon Djankov (LSE, World Bank) and Robert Lawson (SMU, Fraser). It examines these countries through the Fraser Institute鈥檚 Economic Freedom of the World Index and World Bank Doing Business regulatory measures, showing how differences in economic freedom relate to outcomes such as GDP per capita, growth, inequality, life expectancy, human capital, corruption, and happiness. The study includes Saudi Arabia because of its regional importance and Iran as a contrast case, arguing that stronger economic freedom and better business regulation would be associated with better economic outcomes across the region.
